Putnam County rolls past Chattooga in first round

Putnam County defeated Chattooga 62-40 in the first round of the Class A Division I state playoffs to advance.The No. 8 seed Lady War Eagles handled business early against the No. 25 Lady Indians, who never recovered.

Putnam boys’ soccer sets high expectations

Experience is the defining trait for the Putnam County boys soccer team heading into the 2026 season. The War Eagles are led by head coach Michael Taylor, who believes player continuity could pay dividends when the stakes rise.

Veteran lineup lifts Putnam County tennis

Gatewood bats deliver 15-8 season-opening win

The Gatewood Gators opened their 2026 baseball season on a blustery, late-winter day, Feb. 23, with a 15-8 win at home over Strong Rock Christian Academy, out of Locust Grove.

Greenforest bests Putnam boys in region title

Putnam County’s boys basketball team came up just short of a region championship last week, falling 56–53 to Greenforest in the Region 4-A Division I title game.While the loss stung, head coach Patrick Marshall said the performance was another clear sign of how far his team has come.

Lamar upsets Putnam girls in region championship

Lamar County pulled off a 56-54 upset over Putnam County in the Region 4-A Division I championship game last Friday in Eatonton.The victory marked a dramatic reversal from their regular-season matchup, in which the Lady War Eagles dominated with a 70-56 win.

Putnam County learns lessons from close games

The Putnam County baseball team’s early-season record may not tell the full story, but head coach Stephen Phillips believes his group is taking important steps forward.Through the opening stretch of the 2026 regular season, the War Eagles have been tested by close games and late-inning situations.

Putnam County wrestling teams wrap up season

The Putnam County wrestling program wrapped up the 2025-26 season this past weekend at the GHSA state traditionals tournament at The Arena at Southlake in Morrow.Between both the boys and girls teams, Putnam sent five grapplers to the state tournament.
