Seniors leave mark on Gatewood baseball

The Gatewood baseball 2025 class certainly left its mark on the program.The Gators’ seven seniors concluded their time with the program last Saturday after winning three consecutive GIAA Class AA state championships.

War Eagles look to rebound over summer

After a disappointing loss to East Laurens in the Elite Eight round of the Class A Division I state playoffs last February, the Putnam County boys basketball team started its summer schedule earlier this week.

Harper to continue basketball career at Brewton-Parker

Putnam County’s Jaylin Harper recently signed to play basketball at the next level. Harper, who recently graduated, signed with Brewton-Parker College, an NAIA program located in Mt. Vernon.Harper said he’s excited to be a Baron and continue his career on the hardwood in college.

Gators to play for state title after sweeping Trinity Christian

Despite a slow start last Friday, the Gatewood Gators wound up dominating in consecutive wins over the Trinity Christian Crusaders to seal a spot in their fifth-straight GIAA Class 2A state championship series.

Former Putnam star Malik Thornton transfers to Samford

Former Putnam County football standout Malik Thornton has found his new college home.Last November, Thornton entered the transfer portal after three seasons at the University of the Cumberlands. He announced last week that he is transferring to Samford University for his final year of eligibility.

Putnam football to host golf tournament

Putnam County football will host its sixth-annual golf tournament next month. The team’s booster club is organizing the tournament, scheduled for June 14, at the Harbor Club course in Greensboro.

The Putnam County football team recently welcomed two new coordinators in Kyle Wilson and James Lal for the 2025 season.War Eagles head coach Joel Harvin said he’s happy to have the help.“We’re excited to have Coach Wilson and Coach Lal here at Putnam County,” Harvin told The Eatonton Messenger.

Gators sweep Brentwood to reach Final Four

The Gatewood baseball team advanced to the GIAA Class AA Final Four for the fifth-straight season by sweeping rival Brentwood in a doubleheader on May 16 in Eatonton.The Gators dominated the Eagles with a pair of shutout wins, defeating them 9-0 in game one and 10-0 in game two.
