Gators’ season ends with state-final loss

Chalk it up to championship game jitters or just plain bad luck, but a series of fumbles, interceptions, and turnovers cost Gatewood the 2023 Class 2A championship Friday night at Mercer University in Macon.

Gators beat Briarwood to reach state final

For the fifth time in eight years, the Gatewood Gators are going back to the state final. The Gators prevailed 15-12 over visiting Briarwood Academy last Friday night to earn a rematch with Edmund Burke Academy (EBA) in the championship game on Dec. 1, with kick-off scheduled for 5 p.m.

Evans embraces UNC commitment in first official Chapel Hill visit

Gatewood football linebacker, running back and wide receiver Evan Bennett ended his football recruitment earlier this year when he committed to play collegiately at the University of North Carolina.
Bennett is rated as a three-star prospect, according to Rivals.com, a recruiting service for high school prospects. On3 and 247Sports don’t have him rated yet.

Gatewood’s Bennett makes college decision

Gatewood football player Evan Bennett has made his college decision. The rising senior announced via his personal Twitter Monday that he committed to North Carolina. Bennett, who plays linebacker and running back for the Gators, said he’s excited to be a Tarheel.

FOOTBALL: Bennett receives scholarship offer from UNC

In November, Gatewood football’s Evan Bennett received some great news via Twitter. It was a direct message from a football coach at the University of North Carolina inviting the junior running back and his family to visit Chapel Hill and attend a game on campus.

FOOTBALL: Gators get come-from-behind win

Following a back-and-forth battle Friday night, the visiting Gatewood Gators pulled off a 33-26 victory over the Augusta Prep Cavaliers. The win left the Gators with an unblemished record after two games this young season, while Augusta remained winless. “We’ve got a pretty inexperienced team.
