Moss sets high standard for Gatewood baseball

When Gatewood hired former Major League Baseball All-Star Brandon Moss in 2021, it generated plenty of excitement about the program and what it could become under his leadership.

STATESBORO – Last Friday afternoon marked one of the greatest performances in Gatewood baseball history when Lawson Moore tossed a complete game no-hitter.

Gators win program’s fifth state title

STATESBORO — If there was any doubt about Gatewood’s status as the GIAA’s premier baseball program over the past four seasons, the Gators’ latest state championship run put those questions to rest.

Gatewood baseball advances to state semifinals

Gatewood advanced to its sixth consecutive GIAA Class 2A baseball state semifinal series following 8-5 and 12-0 wins over Brentwood last Thursday in Eatonton.The Gators dominated Game 2, hitting a season-high five home runs off the Eagles’ pitching staff.

Gatewood gears up for playoffs

Gatewood’s baseball team split its first two meetings last Monday and Wednesday in a late-season four-game series against Pinewood, earning a 7-5 win in Eatonton before dropping a 4-3 decision in Bellville.The Gators’ pitching rotation continued to shine in Game 1, with Ben Pearson working 6.

Gators pick up three late-season wins

A trio of great pitching performances powered Gatewood to three wins recently, with just one game left on its regular-season schedule.The Gators opened with a 17-3 win over Dominion Christian in Marietta last Monday, followed by a 9-2 win at home the next day over Central Georgia Arts (CGA).

Gatewood’s baseball team swept its way through region play this season on the way to a fourth consecutive region title.The Gators (14-6, 4-0) defeated the Windsor Academy Knights 12-8 in Macon last Tuesday and 15-3 last Friday in Eatonton.

Gatewood perfect so far in region

Since Gatewood’s baseball team (9-4, 5-0) got back on track with a 16-0 win at Central Fellowship Christian Academy (CFCA) on March 20, the Gators have strung together two more wins for a three-game win streak and a 5-0 record in region competition.

Gators rack up region wins on the diamond

With a pair of wins over region foe Trinity Christian of Dublin two weeks ago, the Gatewood baseball team set their league record at 2-0, then added a third region win last Tuesday in Eatonton with a 16-1 decision over Central Fellowship Christian Academy (CFCA).

Gators even record after three losses

It was a week of growing pains for Gatewood, which suffered three consecutive losses after a 3-0 start.The Gators fell 8-2 at Augusta Christian last Monday, then dropped a heartbreaker on the road against rival Piedmont on Tuesday, losing 3-2 on a walk-off in the bottom of the seventh.
