‘He’s selfless’: Putnam QB leads War Eagles to dominate Towers

Branan Griffin was a weapon for Putnam County on both sides of the ball last Friday in a big region matchup against Towers. The senior two-way player helped lead the War Eagles (5-3, 3-1) to a 40-3 win over the Titans (3-4, 0-3).

Whatley’s five touchdowns power Putnam past Eagles

Putnam County quarterback Ethan Whatley stepped up Friday night in a region game against Utopian Academy.Whatley rushed for 78 yards and five touchdowns on seven carries in a 48-0 blowout of the Eagles.

War Eagles look to limit mistakes against Towers

Putnam County (4-3, 2-1) will take the field on Friday for another region game, hosting Towers (3-3, 0-2).The Warriors are coming off a 27-0 loss to Lamar County and are 34-point underdogs entering this game, per the On3.com Massey Ratings.

War Eagles maul McNair in region opener

Putnam County won its second straight game last Friday with a 28-6 victory over McNair in the region opener. The War Eagles (3-2, 1-0) ran the ball effectively and forced several turnovers on defense to get the win.

Putnam prepares for Social Circle squad

After beating McNair last Friday, Putnam County (3-2, 1-0) continues its region schedule this week at Social Circle (3-2, 1-0).The Redskins defeated Utopian Academy 52-0 last Friday in their first region game.

War Eagles hit reset button during bye week

Last week, Putnam County football conducted self-scouting and prepared for future opponents during its first bye.The War Eagles also had a few days off to rest and recuperate after playing five consecutive Fridays in a row.

War Eagles defeat Rebels in dramatic fashion

Putnam County evened its record at 2-2 with a dramatic 16-14 upset of Haralson County last Friday in Tallapoosa.The War Eagles beat the Rebels on the last play from scrimmage. Trailing 14-10 with the clock winding down, Putnam ran a reverse.

Putnam defense was difference maker over Haralson

The Putnam County defense made great strides this past Friday night against Haralson County.Coming into the game, the Rebels had the highest scoring offense in Class A Division I, averaging 39.0 points per game, while the War Eagle defense had allowed 35.6 points per contest.

Mistakes plague Putnam in Laney loss

Mistakes aren’t good for any football team, but Putnam County just had too many of them last Friday against Laney.The War Eagles (1-2) had five turnovers, which helped the Wildcats (2-1) secure a 46-16 win at Al Reaves Field in Eatonton.Putnam County struggled offensively because of turnovers.
