PCHS basketball players earn postseason honors

Following the 2023-24 season, Putnam County High School’s (PCHS) basketball teams had several players earn All-Region honors. Neither team made the Class AA state playoffs, but the region’s coaches voted on the postseason awards last week.

‘Inconsistent’ War Eagles get two region wins

Putnam County bounced back last week with a pair of road region victories over Josey and Laney. The War Eagles topped Josey last Tuesday 67-54 before defeating Laney 81-75 on Friday.

War Eagles come up short against No. 1 Thomson

Class AA’s top-ranked Thomson defeated Putnam County 87-85 last Saturday in a last-second thriller. After trailing 71-62 entering the fourth quarter, the War Eagles battled back but fell just short. They had a chance in the closing seconds, but their last-second attempt bounced off the backboard.

War Eagles knock off rivals Greene, Morgan

The Putnam County boys’ basketball team remains undefeated after knocking off rivals Greene County (80–76) and Morgan County (70-55) this past weekend, giving the War Eagles a 6-0 record.

Bonner leads War Eagles to hot start

The Putnam County boys’ basketball team is off to a hot start this year, defeating two quality opponents in Union County and Hancock Central, largely due to solid play from senior combo guard Landon Bonner. Bonner, the team’s secondleading scorer last year behind Eren Banks, is averaging 28.

Youth to power War Eagles basketball this season

Putnam County boys basketball has high aspirations this season after losing in the second round last year. However, the War Eagles will be without their all-time leading scorer Eren Banks, who graduated in May and is now on scholarship playing basketball at Georgia Southern.

War Eagle boys make transition to summer league

Following a buzzer-beater loss in overtime during the Sweet 16 round of the Class AA state playoffs against Dodge County in March, Putnam County has been working hard to get back on the court.
