PCHS basketball players earn postseason honors

Following the 2023-24 season, Putnam County High School’s (PCHS) basketball teams had several players earn All-Region honors. Neither team made the Class AA state playoffs, but the region’s coaches voted on the postseason awards last week.

War Eagles’ season ends in region tournament

Putnam County basketball’s season came to a close on Feb. 13 with a loss to Laney in the region tournament. The Wildcats avenged two losses earlier in the year to Putnam by knocking off the War Eagles 75-70 in the first round.

War Eagles get ‘wake-up call’ against Butler, Westside

Putnam County head coach LaPatrick Marshall called last week’s two losses a “wake-up call” for his team. Butler and Westside-Augusta completed their respective sweeps of the War Eagles last week in dominating fashion. The Bulldogs won by a 31-point margin, while the Patriots got a 36-point win.

‘Inconsistent’ War Eagles get two region wins

Putnam County bounced back last week with a pair of road region victories over Josey and Laney. The War Eagles topped Josey last Tuesday 67-54 before defeating Laney 81-75 on Friday.

War Eagles come up short against No. 1 Thomson

Class AA’s top-ranked Thomson defeated Putnam County 87-85 last Saturday in a last-second thriller. After trailing 71-62 entering the fourth quarter, the War Eagles battled back but fell just short. They had a chance in the closing seconds, but their last-second attempt bounced off the backboard.

Putnam County finishes second at Eagles Classic

Putnam County basketball competed in the Eagles Classic at Northside High School in Warner Robins last week, finishing runner-up to Veterans High School with a 97-88 loss in the championship game.

War Eagles learn tough lesson in loss to Bulldogs

Putnam County boys’ basketball learned a critical lesson last Friday in a road loss to Hancock Central. The War Eagles missed a pair of free throws and committed a lane violation late in the game, setting up the rival Bulldogs to make a desperate attempt from half-court to win the contest, 66-64.

War Eagles drop first game, win next two

The Putnam County boys’ basketball team lost its first game of the season this past Friday, losing to Butler in Augusta. The Bulldogs mounted a strong second-half effort to defeat the War Eagles, 76-61.
