McCurley: Kudos to Putnam High basketball

I rarely write columns, but I felt like I had to this week.I’ve had the pleasure of covering Putnam County High School’s basketball teams for the past three years, and the 2024-25 season was the most fun. This year’s teams were the most enjoyable to cover because each team had a lot of success.

Lady War Eagles earn All-Region honors

After a successful 2024-25 season, the Putnam County Lady War Eagles had several players garner All-Region 4-AA honors.Four players from Putnam County’s girls were named to the All-Region teams, which the coaches voted on.

Putnam girls’ season ends in Sweet 16 ‘slugfest’

The Putnam County girls’ 2024-25 basketball season ended last Friday in the second round of the state playoffs. For the third time this season, Lamar County defeated the Lady War Eagles, ending their hopes of winning a state championship.

Putnam girls, boys sweep UAA

The Putnam County basketball teams swept the Utopian Academy of the Arts last Friday at home.The Lady War Eagles (12-6) opened up the night of competition with an easy 57-10 victory.

Last week, Putnam County girls basketball (11-6, 2-0) had a rough time, losing two straight games against ranked teams.

Putnam girls learning to win close

The Putnam County girls’ basketball team (8-3) has been on both ends of several close games so far this year.So far this season, the No. 9 Lady War Eagles of Class A Division I are 3-2 in games decided by five points or less.
