Lady War Eagles prep for season through summer games

Coming off a Final Four appearance, Putnam County girls head basketball coach Derrick Arrington returned to the gym with his team this summer. The focus was on development, competition, and preparing for the challenges that await during the 2026-27 season.

PCHS boys, girls earn All-Region basketball honors

The Putnam County basketball teams celebrated standout seasons, as several players from both the boys’ and girls’ programs earned All-Region recognition.On the boys’ side, Jmari Greene was named Region Player of the Year for the second consecutive season.

Lady War Eagles fall in Final Four

Putnam County’s historic postseason journey came to an end March 7 in the Class A Division I Final Four, as No. 12 seed Elbert County upset the No. 8 Lady War Eagles 48–45 in a thrilling semifinal in Fort Valley.

Putnam County girls edge Heard County, advances to Final Four

The Putnam County Lady War Eagles are headed to the Final Four after pulling out a thrilling 55–53 victory over Heard County Lady Braves in the quarterfinal round of the GHSA Class A Division I state playoffs.

Putnam County rolls past Chattooga in first round

Putnam County defeated Chattooga 62-40 in the first round of the Class A Division I state playoffs to advance.The No. 8 seed Lady War Eagles handled business early against the No. 25 Lady Indians, who never recovered.

Lamar upsets Putnam girls in region championship

Lamar County pulled off a 56-54 upset over Putnam County in the Region 4-A Division I championship game last Friday in Eatonton.The victory marked a dramatic reversal from their regular-season matchup, in which the Lady War Eagles dominated with a 70-56 win.

As the region tournament nears, the Putnam County girls basketball team sits atop the Class A Division I state rankings and heads into postseason play as one of the programs everyone is chasing.
