Come April 15, a small army of 190 or so cadets from Georgia Military College will descend upon Putnam County to visit up to 10 of Putnam’s public or non-profit facilities.
They will descend, however, from buses, not tanks, and they will be carrying not rifles, but shovels, mops and brooms.

Three War Eagles earn All-Region honors

The Putnam County boys basketball team recently had three players earn All-Region 4-AA honors.
War Eagle senior Eren Banks and junior Landon Bonner were named to the Region 4-AA First Team. Meanwhile, senior Keyni Crawford was named to the Region 4-AA Second Team.

Gators pick up two wins, lose a close one

The Gatewood Gators were able to capture their first win of the baseball season on Feb. 27 against Stratford Academy in a 5-1 victory.
However, they came up just short against Pinewood Christian in a 9-8 loss the next day.

‘One Night’ leaves Plaza audience in awe

Last Thursday, The Plaza’s 500-seat theater was completely full for One Night in Memphis – a musical tribute to early rock-n-roll legends Johnny Cash, Carl Perkins, Jerry Lee Lewis and Elvis Presley.

“It’s a literacy awareness event and also a fundraiser,” said Cathy Mize, Putnam County Ferst Readers chair.
