Lanzarone, Whatley sign to play at next level

The Putnam County baseball program celebrated two more athletes taking the next step in their athletic careers as seniors Ethan Whatley and Gates Lanzarone officially signed to continue playing at the college level.

Jeff Davis sweeps War Eagles in opening round

Putnam County’s baseball season came to an early end last week, as the team dropped a pair of one-run games to Jeff Davis in the first round of GHSA Class A Division I state playoffs.There wasn’t much separating the two teams all series — just a couple of plays here and there.

War Eagles rally in region series over Lamar

Last week, the Putnam County baseball team responded to an opening-game loss with back-to-back road wins to claim a three-game region series over Lamar County.It was a pivotal series for the War Eagles, who entered this week at 13-10 overall and 8-4 in region play.

War Eagles win pivotal region series over Jasper

Putnam County’s baseball team picked up a key region series win last week, taking two of three games from Jasper County.The War Eagles (11-9, 6-3) handed the Hurricanes their first two region losses of the season and strengthened their position in the standings.

Putnam coach recognizes challenges as season wanes

The Putnam County baseball team appears to be hitting its stride at just the right time.Last week, the War Eagles dominated a three-game region sweep of Towers, defeating the Titans 19-0, 21-2, and 15-0, improving to 9-8 overall and 4-2 in region play entering this week.

The Putnam County baseball team cruised past Alcovy last week, sweeping the series with two commanding victories.The War Eagles rolled to 14-0 and 14-3 wins over the Class 5A Tigers, improving their overall record to 5-6.
