Putnam girls fall to WaCo, ending bounce-back season

Washington County ended Putnam County’s bounce-back season in the region tournament last Tuesday. The Lady Golden Hawks came out on top during the first round of the Region 4-AA tournament, held at Josey High School in Augusta.

Lady War Eagles drop two straight decisions

The Putnam County girls’ basketball team enters the final week of the regular season on a two-game losing streak. The Lady War Eagles fell 52-43 to Washington County and 57-45 to Class AA’s No. 3-ranked Thomson last week.

Lady War Eagles split with Butler, Westside

Putnam County’s girls’ basketball team split games with No. 7 Butler and Westside-Augusta last week. The Lady War Eagles (16-5, 6-4 Region 4-AA) fell to Butler 52-44 on Jan. 23 before routing Westside 74-14 two days later. Putnam sat fourth in Region 4-AA standings entering this week.

Putnam's Kamyra Aikens reaches unique milestone

It’s uncommon for a high school basketball player to score 1,000 points in their career, but Putnam County girls basketball senior Kamyra Aikens reached that lofty milestone last week against Laney. Aikens sunk a free throw to reach 1,000 career points in a 70-58 region win over the Lady Wildcats.

Lady War Eagles’ winning streak snapped with loss to No. 3 Thomson

No. 3 Thomson snapped Putnam County’s eight-game winning streak on Jan. 13 with a 70-62 win. The Lady Bulldogs led 43-42 after the third quarter, but their defense took over in the final period. Thomson outscored the Lady War Eagles down the stretch to help secure their 14th win of the year.

The Putnam County girls’ basketball team (13-2, 3-1 Region 4-AA) continued its success and winning streak this past week with region victories over Westside-Augusta and Washington County. Entering this week, the Lady War Eagles have won seven straight contests, dating back to Dec. 16.

Lady War Eagles beat Social Circle, ready for return to region play

Putnam County got a 56-47 non-region win over Social Circle on Dec. 30. The Lady War Eagles improved to 11-2 as they now prepare for region play. Kamyra Aikens (15 points), Jaikarccie Smith (12 points), and Journey Waller (12 points) led Putnam County in scoring.

Lady War Eagles head into holidays on positive note

Putnam County girls’ basketball is off to one of the best starts in recent memory. The Lady War Eagles are 10-2 overall and riding a four-game winning streak heading into the final week of the year. Butler snapped Putnam County’s five-game winning streak on Dec. 15 with a decisive 57-40 win.

Putnam County Middle school girls' basketball win 3rd-straight title

The rich history for Putnam County girls’ basketball continued on Dec. 14, as head coach Sha’Kedra Ellison and her Putnam County Middle School (PCMS) squad captured an unprecedented third-straight Middle School Championship with a 16-0 record.

Lady War Eagles’ five-game win streak snapped

Putnam County’s five-game winning streak was snapped this Friday against No. 3 Butler in Augusta. Junior Brayla Harris led the charge with 24 points for the Lady Bulldogs, who downed the Lady War Eagles, 57-40. Harris also grabbed nine rebounds, with three assists and two blocks in the win.
