Festival Hall completes flooring restoration

A 2021-22 Watson-Brown Junior Grant for historic preservation recently allowed Festival Hall, Greensboro’s premier arts venue and cultural center, to refinish its floors.

'One of the things that makes our building special is the historic wooden flooring. These floors have supported this community for over 80 years,' Festival Hall Director Nicole Chillemi said.

'(We are) so happy to get this project completed to protect the integrity of our beautiful building.

Thanks to the young men and women of the Watson-Brown Junior Board who are helping our community preserve Festival Hall.' Festival Hall received a 60/40 matching grant from the Watson-Brown Foundation Junior Board, Athens Chapter to assist with the much-needed restoration of the floors inside the Carolyn Reynolds Parker Auditorium and the Charles and Alla Campbell Lobby. Work was completed Aug. 26, by Myers Floor Covering, from Loganville.

The Watson-Brown Foundation supports historic preservation in part through its Junior Board of Trustees, a talented group of high school students that makes grant awards to worthy preservation projects in east central Georgia. The Junior Board is divided into three chapters: Milledgeville, Thomson and Athens, with each chapter awarding $33,000 annually.
