Georgia Writers Museum (GWM) has been selected as the best museum in Georgia by Georgia Business Journal’s Best of Georgia contest.
Forty-seven statewide museums were nominated for the distinction.
“We appreciate the many patrons who voted for the museum,” GWM President Lou Benjamin said. “Many of you voted many times and encouraged your friends to vote for us as well. We are very grateful for your commitment to the museum.”
Best of Georgia is an annual roundup of the best products and services found across the state. Throughout the year, readers of Georgia Business Journal vote for everything they love in the Best of Georgia annual awards. The votes are then tabulated and compiled along with editors’ selections.
The result is a resource that showcases great businesses statewide.
From seafood to seashores and healthcare to home repair, the list includes 20 industry and community categories.
Anyone can nominate a business to get them on the Best of Georgia ballot. Anyone can also vote for a nominee.
Georgia Writers Museum, located in downtown Eatonton, is a literary hub for readers and writers. Pulitzer Prize-winning author Alice Walker grew up in Eatonton, and Joel Chandler Harris, recorder of the Brer Rabbit folktales, was born not far from the museum.
GWM features exhibits about famous Georgia writers, hosts illuminating book talks, conducts writing contests, and holds compelling writing workshops among the museum’s many offerings.
It also features Sylvia’s: A Supernatural Coffee Bar, a bookstore, and houses the Distinguished Georgia Authors Hall of Fame, featuring more than 100 portraits of the state’s finest literary talent.
Located at 109 S. Jefferson Ave., directly across from the historic Putnam County Courthouse, it is home to the Georgia Writers Museum.
