Lake Country Players’ (LCP) recent production of Agatha Christie’s bestselling crime novel and play And Then There Were None was a resounding success, playing to a full house at each of four performances.
Written in 1939, Agatha Christie once recounted And Then There Were None was one of her most difficult stories to write.
The LCP play depicted 10 strangers who received an invitation from an eccentric millionaire, Mr. Owen, to visit his mansion on a private island off the coast of Devon. It turns out, each guest was hiding the secret of a terrible crime that now had them marked for death.
With their host absent and his guests now separated and stranded from the mainland by a storm, they find a framed nursery rhyme hanging in each room predicting doom for each, one by one, until there are none.
Terror and tension arise as each guest is murdered uniquely, essentially as in the nursery rhyme. The visitors then know a killer is among them and realize he or she is not going to stop until all others are dead, too. But who? Only the departed are above suspicion. Who will live to tell the tale?
The play, presented March 14-17 under the LCP directorial debut of Anenaca Simpson (who also played the role of Dr. Armstrong), with assistant director Mo Brower, featured an exceptional cast of veteran local actors that included: Michael Homeier (Sir Lawrence Wargrave), Gretter Naranjo (Vera Claythorne), Michael Alexander, (Captain Philip Lombard), Arthur Shutt (William Blore), Rusty Faulk (Emily Brent), Raymond Burns (General McKenzie), Steve Atcheley (Antony Marston), Carol Grant (Mrs. Rogers), Parke Kallenberg (Mr. Rogers), and Edward Kercado (Fred Narracott), with Heath Burton as the voice/cast understudy.
Auditions for LCP’s next production, the musical “Big River,” featuring Ontario Williams and Tyler Stella, will be held May 12-13 at Lakeside Church (5800 Lake Oconee Pkwy., Greensboro).
