This past weekend was about whimsical feelings and cheer, which is why my family and I went to see Wonka.
Wonka is a movie showing the origins of the Wonka candy and factory that we all know. It takes us through the story of a young son of a baker who grew up to make a promise to his mother come true. The story focuses on themes of grief, found family, joy, and comedy.
During his journey to sell chocolate, Willy Wonka meets four friends who eventually help him establish his first store, where he also comes face to face with an Oompa Loompa, who continuously steals his candy.
As a musical, the movie has many catchy songs and an overall upbeat atmosphere. Wonka always plays into a positive mindset or his childish heart when things get grim. His journey leaves audiences smiling, chuckling, and laughing as they watch a mother’s gift to her son transform into the most desired candy in the world.
With beautiful vocals and an entertaining story, Willy Wonka is a fun experience for adults and kids alike. However, do note that parts of the movie do drag out and there are a few scenes that might be a bit scary for very young children. Due to this, out of a score of 10, Wonka sits at a nine.
