In this world we live in today, life presents us with many challenges. Some of the trials we face can seem overwhelming at times; however, when we read and study God’s Holy Word, we find strength to walk through all our trials.
Isaiah 54:17 states, “No weapon formed against you shall prosper, and every tongue which rises against you in judgment you shall condemn.” This is a very encouraging verse in the Bible because it reassures us that God is with us wherever we go and whatever we do; that we have nothing to fear.
God made a powerful declaration and promise to the Israelites here. He was reminding His people of His might and sovereignty, as well as His abiding love for them. He reassured them by saying, “I will be an enemy to your enemies and will oppose those who oppose you.”
The word of God says not some, not many, but every voice raised up to accuse you; these benefits are enjoyed by ALL the saints of God. When God says something, you can believe it. It will happen.
In saying that “no weapon formed against you shall prosper,” God promised the people of Jerusalem that no enemy will be able to produce successful weapons against them.
Even when they were being attacked by the enemy—Satan—God protected His people, though the situation seemed impossible. It is certainly encouraging to know the Lord is our protector. Even in times when it looks like Satan is winning, God will be there.
This verse has meaning for us today in our struggles, whether small or large. No matter what the devil tries to throw at us, in the end it will fail because God is the ruler of our destiny. God is in control.
The primary theme the Lord wants to communicate in this passage is that God is our salvation. Even when bad things happen to us—when we feel defeated and crushed by our enemies—we can trust and not be afraid; it’s not over. God has the last word.
God is our shelter and strength, always ready to help in times of trouble. So we will not be afraid, even if the earth is shaken and mountains fall into the sea. Even if a deadly disease wreaks havoc in the world, the economy fails, and we lose our job, the Lord Almighty is with us, and He will save us.
Often, the enemy hits us with spiritual strongholds of confusion, depression, anger, anxiety, fear, temptation, and loneliness. But the Lord has given us His Word as our sword and faith, as our shield, and we have His spiritual armor to protect us. This doesn’t mean it won’t hurt, or that we won’t be momentarily stunned and confused— sometimes even knocked to our knees—but keep holding onto God’s unchanging hand. The promise is that it will not prosper.
Jesus stated plainly: “In this world you will have trouble” and “Each day has enough trouble of its own.”
But He also added reassurance that God is near and would remain active in a believer’s life; that no matter what comes against us, seen or unseen, we can be “able to stand” when we lean into God’s grace.
