Passport to Fashion benefits St. Mary’s foundation

After an absence of several years, St. Mary’s Good Samaritan Hospital Foundation, under the guidance of Becky Smith, presented “Passport to Fashion” last Thursday at Lake Oconee Church in Greensboro.

The event began at 4 p.m. for VIP guests, who were treated to drinks and cocktails while visiting the many vendors in the shopping arcade.

Throughout the venue were stunning fashion creations, with its centerpiece, designed by Calvin at Bend the Trend, a highlight among viewers.

By 4:30, guests made their way into the auditorium in readiness for the runway show, where fashion committee head Jennifer Mercer introduced special guest emcee David Chandley, chief meteorologist for the Fox 5 Storm Team. Chandley has been a meteorologist for more than 40 years and eventually will retire to his home in Lake Oconee.

Modeled by male and female lake-area residents, fashions presented included clothing and accessories by local retailers, such as Amelia’s Apparel, Lake Empire, Lake Country Outfitters, Paper Soiree, Macy Gray Boutique, and Madeleine Page.

Winners of four raffle items also were announced during the show and in closing, Good Samaritan Foundation Executive Director Erin James thanked everyone who attended for their support, as well as each of the sponsors.

Following the fashion show, guests were treated to the food delights of Paris, Milan, Tokyo, New York, and Lake Oconee.

At the time, The Foundation had raised more than $100,000 and was still counting. All proceeds go to the foundation and will be used for further expansion of St. Mary’s Good Samaritan Hospital in Greensboro.

Next year’s Heart and Soul Gala is scheduled for Feb. 15.
