Seuss on the Loose returns next month

The 12th annual Seuss on the Loose Fun Run & Festival, sponsored by Putnam Reads, will take place on Saturday, March 7, at Putnam County Primary School.

Several local businesses and community organizations offer a wide variety of activities, including a money machine, face painting, limbo dancing, crafts, and raffle prizes. Of course, there will also be several Seuss characters at the event, helping with the Fun Run and all indoor activities. Costumes are welcome and encouraged for all participants.

Bring the family for the one-mile Fun Run, with registration beginning at 9 a.m. and the race starting a half-hour later. Registration forms are also provided to each child at the Putnam County Primary and Elementary schools, at Gatewood, and at county daycares. They will also be available at the Putnam County Public Library.

Or, register online for the Fun Run at zeffy.com/en-us/ticketing/seuss-on-the-loose. A registration form is also printed in this newspaper.

Regardless of where you register, sign up for the Fun Run by Feb. 20 to ensure you receive the correct-sized t-shirt. Prizes will also be awarded in various age groups. Activities for children of all ages will be held in the PCPS cafeteria from 10 a.m. to noon, with a $10 wristband providing unlimited access to all Seuss activities.

Another important part of the festival is the annual art contest sponsored by the Eatonton Service League. In the lead-up to March 7, local schoolchildren will be working on Seuss-related mixed-media projects.

Their work will be on display at the Seuss on the Loose event, as well as beforehand from Feb.

20 to March 6 at the Putnam County Public Library on Madison Avenue.

What does Putnam Reads do? In affiliation with the Dolly Parton Imagination Library, it mails 900-plus, age-appropriate books each month to our county children, including one for each child from birth to age 5 who is enrolled at a school or recognized daycare facility in Putnam County.

Other Putnam children can register at the event; parents, please sign up your young readers. Children can also be registered by visiting the website at imaginationlibrary.com/usa/find-my-program.

Putnam Reads uses all Seuss on the Loose proceeds to provide these free, brand-new, age-appropriate books each month to registered children. The cost per child is $31 per year.

For anyone who would like to sponsor a child, donations are gratefully accepted year-round. Donations can also be made online at donate.imaginationlibrary.com.

Just click on “I would like to designate this donation to a specific Imagination Library affiliate,” to find Putnam Reads, or send a check by mail to Putnam Reads, Inc., P.O. Box 4283, Eatonton, GA 31024.
