Steffen Thomas Museum celebrates Founders’ Day

The Steffen Thomas Museum had its annual Founders’ Day Sunday to honor the life of founder Sara Douglass Thomas and to present the Charlie Bonner Award for Advancing Art Education.

Museum board president Kay Meier welcomed guests before Lisa Conner, founding director, raised a toast to her mother, Sara.

Therese Avedillot, collections manager of the Steffen Thomas Legacy Archive, then spoke before guests enjoyed a buffet dinner by Harvest & Honey of Rutledge.

Guest speaker Dr. Susan Richmond spoke on the importance of art education, and the Charlie Bonner Award was presented to George Beasley. A video interview with Beasley was shown as he was not able to attend.

The silent auction and raffle drawings were then announced, and the evening closed with words from Kay Meier and STMA board president Emeritus Don Roman.
