Summer of mystery ahead for GWM

“If I had a bookstore,” comedian Demetri Martin wrote, “I would make all the mystery novels hard to find!”

His comical view captures the essence of why we love a mystery read – we must hunt for a solution, always guaranteeing an element of surprise.

In that spirit, the Georgia Writers Museum (109 S. Jefferson Ave., Eatonton) has announced a summer of mystery. The museum will present authors discussing three mystery-laden books in June through August: Clay Bryant, Katherine Reay, and Wanda Morris.

Everyone is invited to come for intrigue, delectable food, and … most of all … surprise! To register for any Georgia Writers Museum event, visit online at georgiawritersmuseum.org or call 706-991-5119.

Back by popular demand, in a special edition of Crime & Wine: Cold Case Solved!, Troup County investigator Bryant will speak about his latest book, The Cold Case Murder of Fred Wilkerson, a mystery beset with suspicious circumstances after a Troup County man seemed to up and vanish.

Interviewed by Crime & Wine founder Sheryl McCollum, Bryant will discuss the riveting details of how he solved this 17-year-old Georgia cold case. Ticket purchases will support the Cold Case Investigative Research Institute, which provides resources and expertise to help law enforcement solve cold cases across the nation.

Crime & Wine: Cold Case Solved! is Saturday, June 24, with doors open at 6:30 p.m. for a 7 p.m. start. Tickets are $45 per person or $40 each when purchasing two or more. A table for six also is available for $200. And your first drink is on the house! Register soon at georgiawritersmuseum.org, before this event is sold out!

On Tuesday, July 18, at noon (doors open at 11:30 a.m.), Reay will present her new book, A Shadow in Moscow.

Set in the thick of the Cold War, Reay’s book describes how betrayal at the highest level risks the lives of two courageous female spies: MI6’s best Soviet agent and the CIA’s newest Moscow recruit.

A Shadow in Moscow will keep you on the edge of your seat as two enemies must find a way to work together to survive.

Publishers Weekly wrote, “Reay builds an immersive world behind the Iron Curtain, full of competing loyalties and a constant chilling sense of paranoia.”

Tickets to this event include brunch and drinks for $45 per person, $40 each when purchasing two or more, or $200 for a table of six guests. Again, visit georgiawritersmuseum.org to register.

Finally, Morris will present her newest book, Anywhere You Run, on Tuesday, Aug. 1, with doors open at 6:30 p.m. for the program to start a half-hour later.

In Anywhere You Run, 21-year-old Violet Richards finds herself in more trouble than she’s ever experienced before. After suffering a brutal attack, she kills the man responsible and before anyone can find the body or identify her as the killer, she decides to run.

After news of the murder brings the police to her door, Violet’s sister Marigold sees no choice but to flee, too. But has she made a terrible choice that threatens her own life and that of her unborn child? Two sisters on the run – but what they don’t realize is there’s a man hot on their trail with his own dark secrets and a disturbing motive for finding them.

Tickets to this event include dinner and drinks at $45 per person, $40 each when buying two or more, or $200 for a table of six guests. Tickets for each or all three events are available online at georgiawritersmuseum.org or call 706-991-5119 for more information.
