The holidays are a time of giving: giving gifts, giving time, and giving a smile.
Whether you’re looking for a gift for under the tree or a gift for your child’s favorite teacher, consider the arts for this giving season.
A unique piece of art is priceless. Between photography, painting, oil pastels, sculptures, books and other art mediums, the options are practically endless.
Fortunately for us in the Lake Country, we have several places to purchase one-of-a-kind art, such as downtown Eatonton’s Artisans Village Art Gallery (theartisansvillage.org) which specializes in handmade jewelry, artwork, pottery, candles and more.
Also in Eatonton is the Georgia Writers Museum (georgiawritersmuseum.org), which in addition to being dedicated to featuring local authors, offers monthly presentations, seminars, special events, and a bookstore sure to satisfy any book lovers in your life.
The Steffen Thomas Museum of Art (SteffenThomas.org) in Buckhead is another Lake Country gem. Not only is it a place to view world-class art, but it also offers the opportunity to purchase unique art pieces, books, and other treasures.
Another option is Andalusia Farm (gcsu.edu/andalusia) near Milledgeville, the mid-20th-century home of author Flannery O’Conner. Besides being a neat place to visit, it is a great place to shop for any art or book lover on your shopping list.
“The best way to spread Christmas cheer is singing loud for all to hear!” Elf was right about that for sure! If seeing live music or theater is your taste, there are plenty of local options for that, too.
The Plaza Arts Center (plazacenter.org) in the heart of Eatonton already has performances scheduled nearly every month in 2023. Whether it’s a tribute band or a comedian you want to see, The Plaza has something for everyone.
Also offering a similarly jam-packed schedule is the Oconee Performing Arts Society (opas.org) in Greensboro. OPAS already has tickets on sale for several 2023 performances.
Throughout the year, participating organizations in the Lake Country Arts Alliance host events, throw community parties, and bring unique items to their storefronts. From finding joy in viewing art to buying gifts for loved ones and friends, or even just bringing home a piece of art to enjoy yourself, there’s something artistic out there for everyone.
For more information on all the organizations in the Lake Country Arts Alliance, visit online at lakecountryarts.org. You’ll learn so much about history, art, the performing arts and so much more just by visiting and supporting these organizations. It’s also a great way to spread holiday cheer!
