Independent film series continues at The Plaza

The Southern Circuit Film Tour continued last Thursday evening at The Plaza Arts Center, where a small but engaged crowd watched “This World is Not My Own,” the fifth of six scheduled free showings for the 2024-25 schedule.

With a cast of nearly 50, the Gatewood Players presented “The Wizard of Oz” last week as the inaugural production on Gatewood’s new stage in the auditorium that doubles as the lunchroom on school days.

The Oconee Performing Arts Society (OPAS) continues its commitment to arts education by bringing world-class artists to local students through engaging masterclasses and live performances.

Georgia College & State University celebrated Flannery O’Connor’s 100th birthday March 26-29 with various events.Flannery O’Connor was an American novelist, born on March 25, 1925, most famous for her work in short stories. Andalusia Farm in Milledgeville, GA, served as her home from 1951-1964.

O’Connor’s unseen visual art revealed on 100th birthday

One hundred years after her birth, over 60 largely unknown pieces of art by Flannery O’Connor were revealed at the opening reception of a new art gallery exhibit, “Flannery at 100: Hidden Treasures.

Four Old Broads premieres

The much-anticipated production of Four Old Broads by Leslie Kimball had audiences roaring with laughter from the very first line. Even a last-minute reschedule of the March 20 show — due to a power outage at Festival Hall — couldn’t dim the enthusiasm for this crowd-pleasing comedy.

Unwrapping my copy of The Supper Club and spying the cover, I found a magnificent palette of colors that immediately recalled the classic, bold styles of Dorothy Draper, as well as recollections of vintage Lilly Pulitzer.

Move Review: A retelling of classic ‘Snow White’

Over the weekend, I went to see the live-action “Snow White,” a retelling of Disney’s classic 1937 film. With Rachel Zegler playing Snow White, Gal Gadot as the Evil Queen, and Andrew Burnap as the reimagined “prince” from the original tale, the story was a good, reimagined story.
