A man who was arrested two weeks ago on charges related to creating child pornography is back in jail facing a number of additional charges, including rape, according to authorities.
Corey Andrew Hickey, 38, of the Twin Bridges Road area, was arrested Oct. 21 on two counts of creating or possessing with intent to distribute or sell visual medium depicting a minor in sexually explicit conduct, and one count of employ/using a minor to engage in/assist a person in sexually explicit conduct for visual medium. Hickey, through a bond agent, posted the $60,000 bond and was released.
“And last week, the GBI came and brought us (almost 30) additional warrants,” Putnam County Sheriff Howard Sills said. “They brought those to us on Friday afternoon. Saturday night late, he was sighted in the Oconee Springs Road area, and we looked for him for several hours that night. Sunday morning, Cpl. Chris Donovan located him at the house where the man who made his bond lived.”
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation’s Child Exploitation and Computer Crimes (CEACC) Unit began an investigation in mid-October of Hickey’s online activity as a result of a Cyber Tipline Report from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, according to a GBI press release.
GBI Assistant Special Agent in Charge Renea Green told The Eatonton Messenger that when the CEACC supervisors reviewed the tip and the evidence, they “determined to escalate the investigation and immediately take action.”
After Hickey’s arrest, as the evidence was seized and processed, additional warrants were obtained, Green said.
In addition to the aforementioned charges, Hickey is now facing nine additional counts of possession of child sexual abuse material, nine additional counts of production of child sexual abuse material, four counts of aggravated child molestation, three counts of child molestation, and three counts of rape.
“And the man who made his bond has come off his bond of those original charges, so now he (Hickey) is being held without bond,” Sills said.
All of the criminal acts, which Sills described as “vile and disgusting,” that Hickey is being charged with are against one victim who was not a stranger to Hickey, Sills said, and reportedly took place between July and October this year.
