Cameras help authorities solve crimes

One man sought, two jailed

Putnam County authorities are searching several counties for a wanted man, while in a separate case, they searched far and wide until locating and arresting two men believed to be involved in stealing from a local business.

“Once again, cameras are helping us identify these individuals and also helping us to locate them,” Putnam County Sheriff Howard Sills said. The sheriff noted he drove more than 300 miles in three or four days searching for the men.

Sought and jailed

Two men were captured on security cameras stealing thousands of dollars worth of equipment from a business on Harmony Road around 8:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 18. The camera footage helped authorities identify the two men and one was arrested Tuesday, Feb. 26 by Putnam County Sheriff’s Sgt. Justin Brock, according to jail records.

James Christopher Arnold, 38, of Macon, was charged with second-degree burglary – a felony.

“Upon obtaining a warrant for his arrest, I entered his truck into the Flock camera system,” Sills said. “He was subsequently stopped by a trooper in Peach County, and that’s how we apprehended him.”

Joshua Lee Ussery, 43, of Warner Robins, was arrested by Sills on March 7, also on charges of felony second-degree burglary.

Both men are being held without bond in jail at the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office.

Still searching

A man’s photo was captured on a security camera in a yard in the River Lake Drive and Long Shoals Road neighborhood at 2 a.m. on March 2, Sills said.

“We don’t know how many other houses he may have been at, but he was captured on camera at one residence, holding a semi-automatic pistol and bolt cutters,” Sills said. “He was not alone, but the other individual’s face is not seen on the camera footage.”

The photo helped identify the man as Danreco Lovanta Harris, of Sparta. Sills said Harris was already wanted by Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office on two counts of felony probation violation warrants.

Also, Harris was released on bond in January from Orlando, Florida, where he was convicted of trafficking fentanyl.

“He has been convicted of multiple felonies, so he shouldn’t have a gun,” Sills said, noting he has been communicating with Hancock County Sheriff’s Office regarding the possible whereabouts of Harris.

In addition to the probation violation warrants out of other counties, Putnam County Sheriff’s Office now has a warrant out on Harris for loitering and prowling, and possession of a gun by a convicted felon, Sills said.

“Lastly, we are pursuing leads and are actively seeking information that will enable us to effect the arrest of Danreco Harris at this time and we would very much like to receive any information the public may have in regards to his whereabouts,” Sills said.
