A car filled with seven people crashed into a tree recently, and miraculously, no one was injured, Eatonton Police Chief Howell Cardwell said.
The vehicle, driven by Damya Williams of Eatonton, was traveling south at a high rate of speed on Hogan Industrial Boulevard May 5, ran through the stop sign at the intersection of Industrial Boulevard and into the woods where it hit a tree. Upon impact with the tree, the car’s engine burst into flames.
Eatonton and Putnam County fire departments responded and put out the fire.
Four of the passengers in the car had walked away and were not on the scene when emergency personnel, including police, arrived, Cardwell said. No one was injured, but they were “shaken up pretty badly,” he described.
According to Cardwell, Williams was cited for speeding, reckless driving, failure to maintain lane, and running a stop sign.
