A Conyers-based company is relocating to Greensboro after having purchased the land several years ago.
Located opposite the Novelis plant on Willow Run Road, Frey-Moss Structures is building a fabrication center expected to cover almost 100,000 square feet to accommodate a large industrial crane critical to its operations.
Frey-Moss specializes in the design, fabrication, and installation of steel-framed modular buildings. Nearing 100 years in the business, Frey-Moss is a third-generation company run by the grandson of the founder. It offers a substantial benefit to companies by going from initial design to an operating business relying on a workforce of welders, fabricators, bricklayers, sales, and accounting personnel.
Chief Operating Officer Henry Frey, 50, said he is excited to make the move.
“We recognized that Greensboro was a good fit,” Frey said. “We like the lake area and will look for personnel in all pay ranges. Initially, we expect to bring on at least 30 new personnel and over the next five years, roughly 100 new personnel from the area.
The building site has already been cleared with site work completed with the county. Next, Frey-Moss will erect the facility with completion and certification of occupancy expected by mid- to late-March 2024. Several current employees are expected to relocate to the new site.
Frey-Moss has a long list of significant clientele, with Chick-fil-A being one of the largest in the state. Frey said the company currently has more than $70 million in sales and expects that number to grow with other clients that now include Murphy USA, Whataburger, and Zaxby’s.
Frey sees definite advantages with the Board of Education’s (BOE) College and Career Academy located at Greene County High School.
The College and Career Academy’s popular student pathways include audio-visual technology, automotive, business and technology, computer science, culinary arts, early childhood education, emergency medical responder, welding, and marketing and management.
“We see it as a ready pool of hirable candidates,” Frey said.“We hope to take applications soon and have potential employees work on-site at our Conyers location who can transition to the Greensboro facility. We have already received a few applications.”
Greene County Economic Development Director David DuBois said he is pleased with the Frey-Moss relocation to Greene County, recognizing the tax revenue and further growth to an area that is becoming more popular to residents and businesses and has experienced explosive growth.
Taco Bell, Longhorn Steakhouse, a new Holiday Inn, and a RaceTrac are being constructed and Starbucks and sub shop Jersey Mike’s have already opened.
“With Greene County’s favorable I-20 location and a county welcoming industry, we are happy with Frey-Moss coming to Greensboro,” DuBois said. “The added benefit of potential hires at the College and Career Academy is a real draw for the company. Our economic development efforts help create better jobs that lead to an increased standard of living for our residents. It also improves the infrastructure of the community we live in.”
