An Eatonton man surrendered to authorities Friday and faces various traffic-related charges, including serious injury by vehicle.
Dazavious Little, 28, of Eatonton, is charged with two counts of serious injury by vehicle, DUI-alcohol, open container in vehicle, reckless driving, improper passing, no insurance, driving an unregistered vehicle, and not wearing a seatbelt, according to Putnam County Jail reports. He was released on $15,000 in property bonds. The charges all stem from a head-on collision on Monticello Road around 6:40 p.m. on Aug. 2.
“The reason we waited this long to charge him is because he was severely injured in the collision, and was in a wheelchair when he came in here,” Putnam County Sheriff Howard Sills said.
Two other people also were seriously injured in the crash, including Little’s passenger, 26-year-old William Few, and the driver of the other vehicle, 46-year-old Sandy Brown, both of Eatonton.
Little was driving a 2002 Mitsubishi Eclipse eastbound on Monticello Road, heading toward Eatonton, Sills said. According to witnesses, Little attempted to pass a truck that was also traveling east in a no-passing zone on a hill. While doing so, Little’s Mitsubishi crashed head-on with a westward bound 2010 Toyota Corolla being driven by Brown.
All three victims were transported to Navicent Health Medical Center in Macon for treatment of their injuries. A blood test revealed Little’s blood alcohol level was .159 at the time.
“That’s almost .16, which is almost twice the DUI limit of .08,” Sills noted.
