Eatonton woman killed in motor scooter crash

An Eatonton woman lost her life after a motor scooter crash, according to authorities.

The victim, Misty Renee Hunnicutt, 48, of Eatonton, was traveling along Wards Chapel Road around 8:30 p.m. on June 29. She apparently struck a deer approximately one-half mile past the Great Waters entrance, said Putnam County Sheriff Howard Sills.

“The reason we say she hit a deer is because parts of the scooter had deer hair on them,” he explained.

The impact caused Hunnicutt to be thrown from her 2009 Magnum 150RL scooter. Earlier reports revealed Hunnicutt was not wearing a helmet, but Sills said they later learned she was. The sheriff said her helmet apparently came off during the impact, noting it was found at the edge of the woods beside the crash scene the next day by Hunnicutt’s brother.

Another driver on the road came upon the scene and called 911.

Hunnicutt was still alive when Deputy Mark Adams arrived on the scene as well as while being treated by Putnam County EMS and taken to the hospital.

She died at the hospital from traumatic head injuries, Sills said.
