What began as an affront between neighbors a couple of weeks ago escalated into fists being thrown at a convenience store and the two men behind bars, according to authorities.
Tehavis Lavell Eubanks, 32, of Spring Street, Eatonton, was arrested on Sept. 14 on charges of affray (fighting) and felony criminal damage to property second degree.
Micheal Jimil Madison, 26, who also lives on Spring Street, was arrested the same time on charges of affray (fighting), felony criminal damage to property in the second degree, and probation violation aggravated assault.
Eatonton Police Department officer Carl Hudson responded to the call about a fight around 4:20 p.m. Sept. 14 at the Stop N Go, formerly known as Buster’s Pantry, on MLK Jr. Drive. When Hudson arrived, Eubanks was walking out of the store “in an aggressive manner,” according to Hudson’s report. Eubanks told Hudson that he and Madison had just been in a fight inside the store.
When he walked inside, Hudson immediately noticed “merchandise, food items, bottles of wine, and other items damaged or broken all over the floor,” he wrote in his report.
The officer asked Madison what happened.
“He stated that Mr. Eubanks had disrespected him approximately one week earlier,” Hudson said. “As a result, Mr. Madison admitted that, because of the prior incident, he punched Mr. Eubanks in the face.”
Video from the store’s cameras revealed the fight that ensued, and both men were arrested. The damage to the merchandise and shelves totaled $650. According to O.C.G.A. 16-7-23, any damage over $500 warrants a second degree felony charge.
