A Putnam County jury returned with a guilty verdict for the man who was accused of shooting to death Frederick Lamar Scott Jr. at the Shell Food Mart last summer.
Lajuan Peire Evans, 25, of Covington, was found guilty of malice murder and other related charges this afternoon, Wednesday, Feb. 21, according to Eatonton Police Chief Howell Cardwell.
Ocmulgee Judicial Circuit Superior Court Chief Judge Brenda H. Trammell sentenced Evans to life plus five years with the possibility of parole.
The fatal shooting took place June 4, 2023, at the Shell gas station on East Sumter Street in Eatonton. Evans turned himself in to authorities the next day.
