Repaving of downtown Eatonton’s main thoroughfare officially began Monday morning as aging asphalt was being replaced on North Jefferson Avenue at its intersection with East Marion Street in front of the historic Putnam County Courthouse.
Eventually, the entire downtown pass-through, ending at Hwy 441 at both ends, will be repaved, with work expected to continue until late fall.
The Georgia DOT work crew was surprised to find original concrete roads beneath the excavated asphalt downtown, limiting the thickness of the new surface being applied.
