Man throws drugs, money out window while fleeing

A Milledgeville man recently drove along Old Phoenix and New Phoenix roads slinging methamphetamine, scales, and money out the window of his car as he tried to escape Putnam County Sheriff’s Office detectives.

Deputies caught the driver and recovered the evidence. The man, identified as Jimil Lyquain Foston, is being held in jail at the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office without bond. During an investigation, an 8-ball, or 3.5 grams, of methamphetamine was purchased from Foston in a supervised buy, which later resulted in the arrest being made.

“During the arrest, he fled the scene in his automobile, and we chased him,” PCSO’s Lt. Harry Luke said. “It wasn’t a high-speed chase because it hardly got over 50 miles per hour, but the whole time, he was destroying evidence or getting rid of it out the car window.”

Foston broke his cell phone in half before tossing it out the window, but that only shattered the screen, not the SIM card with his data on it, Luke said.

The chase and arrest occurred shortly before 1 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 6. The sheriff’s office had received an anonymous tip about suspicious activity, which led to the investigation. Foston was a cook at a popular restaurant, but he didn’t sell drugs at the restaurant, Luke said.

The sheriff’s detective said Foston had been arrested five or six previous times for selling drugs, “and he’s on probation until like 2060.”

Foston, 48, of Clark Street, Milledgeville, is facing charges that include sale of methamphetamine, felony fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer, misdemeanor willful obstruction of law enforcement officers, driving on the wrong side of the road, failure to drive within a single lane, and failure to stop at a stop sign.

“Anyone who has any information of any ongoing drug activity, they can call myself or Detective Turk at the sheriff’s office (706-485-8557), and it all remains anonymous,” Luke said.
