New look Junior Tour golf visits Lake Country

The Middle Georgia division of the Junior Tour powered by Under Armour, a golf league for players of all skill levels aged 6-18, will feature two Lake Country stops this fall: Nov. 6, at The Club at Lake Sinclair, near Milledgeville, and Dec. 4, at Great Waters Golf Club at Reynolds Lake Oconee.

Junior Tour Regional Director Greg Zecca said that in response to recent suggestions from league participants, the Junior Tour now also features boys’ and girls’ divisions in each age group: 6-8, 9-11, 12-14, and 15-18, with caddies permitted for all but the oldest division.

“We are a constantly evolving organization and our leadership takes great pride in creating opportunities that make sense for all youth golfers,” Zecca said. “We added a world championship last year, and now boys’ and girls’ divisions. It’s just so exciting to work with people who truly care about the experience of young golfers.”

There are four Junior Tour divisions in Georgia—Atlanta, Middle, Coastal and West—and Zecca, who handles the Middle and Coastal divisions, said he speaks regularly with his fellow directors, who inspire him through ideas to provide further opportunities for youth golfers in Georgia.

“It’s great to be connected with people that have similar motivations,” he said. “While we are still working on details, I can tell you that what we planned here in Georgia will be something a lot of people will get behind and the kids will love.”

The six-tournament Middle Georgia Junior Tour powered by Under Armour opens Sept. 25, at Southern Landings in Warner Robins, with a visit to Perry’s Houston Lake Country Club Oct.

16, before heading to Milledgeville. Next comes the Barrington Hall course in Macon Nov. 20, then Great Waters before returning to Macon Dec.
