Baldwin County Fire units Engine 6, Engine 7, and Engine 8, along with Battalion 1 and Squad 17, and Putnam County Fire Department responded to a structure fire call at 4:30 a.m. Dec. 4 on Cape Harbor Drive, west of the railway bridge on the southern side of Lake Sinclair.
Putnam County Fire Chief Thomas McClain said two firefighters and a battalion chief from PCFD’s Station 2 on Pea Ridge Road responded to the scene to provide mutual aid when BCFR called them.
Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office and Atrium Health Navicent Emergency Medical Service were also on scene to assist.
“Morning crews arrived on scene to find a single-story structure with heavy fire through the roof. It took about an hour to gain control of the fire,” Deputy Fire Chief Bradley Towe of Baldwin Fire Rescue said.
At noon, Baldwin Fire Rescue was still in “overhaul mode”, extinguishing hot spots on site. Towe reported that two dogs and two cats perished in the fire, and two cars burned inside the home’s double garage.
“The cause of the fire is currently unknown, and investigation will begin when the hot spots are out,” Towe said during a Dec. 4 interview.
According to authorities, the three residents of the home were able to make it out safely. As of Dec. 8, the cause of the fire had not yet been determined.
