It is hardly breaking news that confirmed cases of COVID in Lake Country counties, in Georgia, and, indeed, in the country have almost – almost – dropped off the table from their January high points.
But a status report might still offer some insights.
For instance, in the first two weeks of April ending on Friday the 15th, the five Lake Country counties of Baldwin, Greene, Hancock, Morgan, and Putnam (plus Jones and Jasper because they border on Putnam) had a total of 40 COVID cases and six COVIDrelated deaths. Baldwin had 17 of those cases and Putnam, 10; Greene, six.
Across Georgia there were right at 4,000 cases in two weeks. By comparison, at the height of the omicron surge in January, the state reported nine days with more than 25,000 new confirmed cases.
In the two-plus years since March of 2020, one in five Georgians (and inching closer to one in four) have had COVID. Remarkably, those proportions hold steady across the state regardless of population, whether rural or urban, north or south.
For the 25-month period:

• Greene – 3,931 cases, 84 deaths
• Morgan – 4,661 cases, 67 deaths
• Jones – 5,051 cases, 108 deaths
• Jasper – 3,126 cases, 71 deaths
• Putnam – 4,491 cases, 105 deaths
• Hancock – 1,577 cases, 89 deaths
• Georgia – 2,505,343 cases, 37,428 deaths
