The Madison-Morgan Conservancy (MMC) will present “An Evening with Chuck Leavell” Sept. 13 at the Madison-Morgan Cultural Center (MMCC) Auditorium following the Conservancy’s annual Membership Supper and inaugural Conservation/ Preservation Awards show.
Currently the music director for the Rolling Stones, Leavell has also performed with a wide range of world-class musicians, including the Allman Brothers Band, Eric Clapton, Pink Floyd, and John Mayer, among others.
The legendary musician also is a dedicated conservationist and the MMC fundraising event will help to support the Conservancy’s efforts to thwart sprawl by protecting a critical mass of land for future generations. Through conservation easements, Leavell and his wife, Rose Lane, have permanently protected hundreds of acres of their family farm, Charlane Plantation, in Twiggs County.
“We are so honored Chuck Leavell will join us for this once-in-a-lifetime event and are extremely grateful for his support of our effort to grow a regional land trust,” MMC Executive Director Christine Watts said. “He not only understands the importance of conservation organizations like the Conservancy, but he can convey to people through music and his own actions why conserving our land is so important.”
Leavell’s presentation will open with an approximately 30-minute edited version of the documentary, “Chuck Leavell: The Tree Man,” followed by a stage performance including stories and songs moderated by Stan DeJarnett of the Atlanta Seventeen. Tickets for the supper sponsorships are available now, with general admission tickets to be released July 11.
“I can’t think of a better way to celebrate the Conservancy’s 25th anniversary, and to do it in Madison’s crown jewel, the Madison-Morgan Cultural Center, is just a dream come true,” Watts said.
The Conservancy’s annual membership supper and first-ever Preservation/Conservation Awards show will begin at 5 p.m. in the Cultural Center Hall on Foster, and doors will open at 7 p.m. for an 8 p.m. start for “An Evening with Chuck Leavell” in the MMCC auditorium. There will be 250 tickets made available for the membership supper and 400 tickets available to “An Evening with Chuck Leavell.” To sponsor the event or reserve tickets visit “Events” at mmcgeorgia.org.
