The Rotary Club of Greene and Putnam Counties is pleased to announce the following Students of the Month for September 2022: Bryce Coker (Gatewood Schools), Haley Heinen (Lake Oconee Academy), Elodie Johnson (Nathanael Greene Academy), and Rileigh Gill (Putnam County High School). Note Aiden Turner, Student of the Month from Greene County High School was unavailable to attend and will be recognized next month.
Bryce Coker is a senior at Gatewood School. His parents are Bryan and Rebecca Coker. Bryce currently holds a 4.1 GPA and is an active member of the Anchor Club. Over the course of his junior year in high school and through the summer, he completed a course in Medical Coding and Billing and received a certificate. Over the summer, he worked at FitCo Health Club (formerly Bodyplex Lake Oconee) at a front desk position.
Bryce is actively involved with the Putnam County Food Drive held one Saturday out of every month. He enjoys helping distribute food to those in need and helping others in various other community projects. Bryce will be attending the University of Georgia this fall and plans to complete a degree in Pharmacy. Bryce chose Josh Ringer as his Teacher of the Month.
Hailey Heinen is a senior at Lake Oconee Academy. Hailey’s parents are John and Allison Heinen, and she has a twin sister named Hannah. Hailey is a high honors student, nationally awarded pianist and enjoys participating with her teammates in varsity cheerleading and tennis.
She is the Executive Director of Lake Oconee Miracle, an organization that involves the community in raising awareness and fundraising for local children’s hospitals, and also serves as in the student government and as a Beta Club officer.
Her favorite academic memory is achieving 42nd place at the Scripps National Spelling Bee.
Hailey enjoys learning about the political system and spent her most recent summer at Georgetown University in Washington, DC taking a college credit class in United States Politics.
Her childhood dream of becoming the President of the United States still remains, and she hopes to pursue a degree in international politics and law after she graduates from high school. Hailey selected Caroline St. John as her Teacher of the Month.
Elodie Johnson is a senior at Nathanael Greene Academy.
Elodie’s parents are Chris Johnson and the late Tammy Johnson of Union Point. She has attended Nathanael Greene Academy since fifth grade. She has participated in volleyball, basketball and cheerleading. She has been a member of the Beta Club for two years.
Elodie serves as the class president of the senior class. She is involved with One-Act Play, literary and chorus. She also plays bass guitar for her church’s praise band and participated in the Trunk or Treat for preschool and elementary students at NGA.
Elodie is very active in her community. She has helped with the Union Point 5K and been employed with Chick-Fil-a at Lake Oconee for two years. She plans to attend Athens Technical College next fall. Elodie selected Gracie Bissell as her Teacher of the Month. Rileigh Gill is a student at Putnam County High School. Rileigh’s parents are Brad and Denise Gill.
An honor roll student, she is a member of Beta Club, National Honor Society, Key Club and competitive cheer team. She enjoys traveling, spending time with friends and swimming. Rileigh also volunteers at food drives and at the recreational department to teach little girls how to cheer.
Rileigh considers her perseverance as her most positive attribute. Her Teacher of the Month, Jessica Castillo, is a person Rileigh respects for her hard work and ability to push through anything. After high school, Rileigh wants to attend the University of Georgia and pursue a degree in biology as she sees herself as an orthodontist in the future.
