Santa’s Bookstore comes to Georgia Writers Museum

Santa recently slid down the chimney at Georgia Writers Museum (GWM) in downtown Eatonton and left a stack of new items to sell for holiday gifts.

Among these special treasures are new books, including Christmas Gift! by Dr. Ferrol Sams, Jr., who with humor and old-fashioned moralizing presents stories about unlikely encounters and what people learn from them. Sams’ natural storytelling style has made him a popular writer in the South, winning him the prestigious Townsend Prize for Fiction and leading to his 2007 induction into the Georgia Writers Hall of Fame.

The Seasonal Heart, by the late George Heiring, a former president of Georgia Writers Museum, also was

among Santa’s deliveries to GWM this year. The Seasonal Heart captures the wonder, joy, excitement, hilarity, and reverence of the Christmas season through stories and poems from an award-winning storyteller, and beautiful depictions of art and paintings by celebrated Southern artists.

And for the kids, Santa left ’ Twas the Night Before Christmas in Georgia, which combines the classic Christmas story about the magic of Santa with the magic of our state, featuring many locations and landmarks that make Georgia special.

Santa also made sure to leave behind many signed copies of award-winning books by GWM presenters. Each month, GWM holds a “Meet the Author” event and the museum store stocks each author’s book (many signed) for purchase, with any of them making a great holiday gift.

For instance, The World of Doc Holliday by Victoria Wilcox is a popular seller, as is Gathering Blossoms Under Fire: The Journals of Alice Walker, released earlier this year by Eatonton’s own Alice Walker, another GWM alum after penning The Color Purple. Also, Sudden Death the second book authored by Carolyn Curry, wife of Superbowl champ Bill Curry, is available for purchase as is former WSB-TV anchor John Pruitt’s new book, Tell it True: A Novel. Pruitt was last months GWM Meet the Author presenter.

Georgia Writers Museum also will be participating in Mainstreet’s Mistletoe Market Nov. 12, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the Putnam County Courthouse lawn, with several authors on hand at various times to sign books.

Among them will be Brinkley Pound with When Eva Hollers, Betty Liedtke with Find Your Buried Treasure and Fearless Women, and Andrea Caswell with her Kibby children’s book series.
