    A small sink hole that suddenly developed Friday evening, May 20, at the intersection of Sumter and Washington streets in Eatonton should be all repaired this week.

    Eatonton Police Chief Howell Cardwell said the intersection was closed and traffic rerouted Friday evening and through the weekend. Noting the sink hole was only a foot or two away from a manhole cover, the chief said the hole apparently was caused by some type of break in a wall around the sewer line. Someone called and reported the sink hole Friday evening, and the police department roped off the intersection.

    Workers with the Eatonton Putnam Water Sewer Authority were repairing the sewer line wall and sink hole Tuesday, May 24, according to EPWSA Project Manager Brice Doolittle, who said the work should be completed within a day or so.

    “We’re just waiting for the concrete truck to show up and we’ll be done,” he said. “We’re coordinating with the Eatonton public works department and they’ll asphalt over it and then it will be like we were never there.”
