State, county brace for Hurricane Isaias

Gov. Brian Kemp has declared an official state of emergency in anticipation of the arrival of Hurricane Isaias.

“The forecast for Putnam County at the present time (Thursday afternoon) is only for potential high winds and flooding with the initial impact here arriving around 3 a.m. on Saturday,” said Putnam County Sheriff and EMA Director Howard Sills.

According to the National Weather Service, Hurricane Isaias is expected to intensify over the next 24 to 48 hours. Landfall is expected Friday night along the Gulf coast/Panhandle of Florida. After midnight Friday and into Saturday morning, the impacts may start to stack up with heavier rain bands, higher wind gusts, and tornado risks. Those same impact risks continue Saturday afternoon and into the night, with flash flooding.

“We will keep everyone posted as the plethora of official notices and warnings come in from the NWS, GEMA, FEMA, etc.,” Sills said.
