An Eatonton Dollar General employee was arrested last week for stealing money from the store.
Julie Michelle English, 48, of Milledgeville, was charged July 11 with theft by taking, according to Eatonton Police Chief Howell Cardwell.
English stole about $400 over a period of time, the police chief said. The reported incidents had taken place since the middle of June at the Dollar General on Sumter Street. English told Eatonton Police officer Michael Hancock that she would “abort” purchases and let the customer “walk out the door with the items, and then (she) would take the money,” Cardwell said.
She told Hancock that she was having financial difficulties and needed the money.
She was taken to jail at the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office, and was released on a $1,405 property bond.
