After a foot chase through a briar patch, a man wanted by authorities in other counties was captured in Eatonton.
State probation officers came to Putnam County April 20 because they learned Tommy Kell was staying in Putnam, Sheriff Howard Sills said.
“They had warrants for him in both Newton and Baldwin counties,” he explained.
Putnam County deputy sheriff Paul Bernichon went with the probation officers to the house on the 200 block of Sparta Highway. When they arrived, Kell reportedly ran off into the woods behind the house.
“I think they knew he’d run, that’s why so many of them came,” Sills opined.
After a chase through “a lot of briars,” Sills said one of the probation officers was able to tackle the fugitive.
Tommy Lee Kell, 25, was charged with one misdemeanor count of obstruction of an officer; foreign warrant Baldwin County of hit and run and driving without a license; and foreign warrant Newton County for burglary.
He is being held in Putnam County jail.
