Water main break leaves some customers dry

Downtown Eatonton restaurants and other businesses and homes have been without water today (Tue., Aug. 25) due to a water main break. Eatonton City Manager Gary Sanders said the break is located at the dead end of Willie Bailey Street.

“The break has been repaired, but they are still backfilling the hole and beginning the process of opening back up the valves they had to close,” Sanders said around 3:15 p.m.

Eatonton-Putnam Water Sewer Authority issued a boil water advisory to everyone who was without water during the break and repair process.

Downtown restaurants closed, but City Hall remained open, Sanders said, because the break did not affect City Hall.

“This is actually a repair of an old repair from about 15 years ago in that same area,” he noted.

Putnam County Sheriff Howard Sills said Putnam General Hospital and Putnam County Middle and Elementary schools lost water service "for a very short period of time," but water was diverted from the courthouse so that classes could continue as usual.
