Sills invited back into Georgia Sheriffs’ Association

Putnam County Sheriff Howard Sills is back in the Georgia Sheriffs’ Association. Almost five years since he tendered his resignation to the association, the members of the GSA Board of Directors sent Putnam’s longest-recorded serving sheriff a letter inviting him back into their membership.

One action at the Putnam County Board of Commissioners’ first meeting of the new year shuffled $1.8 million from one internal account to another – following 17 years, an economic recession, the closing of Georgia Power’s Plant Branch, a lawsuit, and a state attorney general’s opinion.

Vehicle crashes into store; no injuries reported

A vehicle crashed into the Quick Pantry on Oak Street Sunday afternoon, Jan. 8; no one was injured but the driver was arrested, authorities say. Ronnie Williams said his brakes failed as he was pulling into the parking lot and a parking space of the convenience store around 3:40 p.m.
