Eatonton Police Department continues its work to keep dangerous drivers off the city’s streets. Last week, with assistance from Putnam County Sheriff’s deputies, the Eatonton police captured one and thus stopped his “occupation of hoodlumism,” according to Sheriff Howard Sills.

After a two-year experiment on Saturday nights, the 24th annual Taste of Eatonton, presented by the Eatonton-Putnam Chamber of Commerce and Eatonton Main Street, returned to Monday last week with a couple hundred hungry food fans converging on The Plaza Arts Center lawn.

Truck hauling batteries catches fire

Authorities said northbound traffic on U.S. Hwy. 441 was temporarily blocked Monday afternoon due to a fire in an 18-wheeler truck.

Kinderhook community hopes to add fire station

The Kinderhook Fire Association was founded in April 2016 by a small group of concerned residents to promote the need for a fire station in the area, which includes the Kinderhook, Reseau’s Crossing, Note, Twilight Shores, Murder Creek, Burtom, Jones Road, and Rabbit Skip communities, among others.

Businesses, county offices evacuated for bomb threat

Authorities said businesses on Godfrey Road were evacuated, and the road closed last week due to a bomb threat.The Marble Works manufacturing site, formerly owned by GroTech, was the site of the threat, according to Eatonton Police Department reports.
