Armyworms invade local home lawns, gardens, crops

Armies are now invading Putnam County and the rest of Georgia. Specifically, armies of destructive caterpillars called fall armyworms. The armyworms eat up an entire home lawn or farm hay pasture, forage, or row crops in no time flat.

A young Eatonton man lost his life Sunday morning in a two-vehicle crash.Rhi’Miair Johnson, 18, of Sunnyland Drive, Eatonton, died instantly in the collision, said Putnam County Coroner Hollis Harrison.Around 10:40 a.m.

Thompson retires after 50 years of service

It’s hard to imagine what an emergency rescuer has seen and done over a half-century of service. Joe Thompson was a member of the Eatonton—Putnam County volunteer rescue service, which started in June 1974. He retired this June after serving a full 50 years.

An Eatonton young man lost his life Sunday morning in a two-vehicle crash.Rhi’Miair Johnson, 18, of Sunnyland Drive, Eatonton, died instantly in the wreck that happened on Gray Highway around 10:40 a.m., said Putnam County Sheriff Howard Sills.

A 67-year-old Dudley man was killed in a single-vehicle crash on Pea Ridge Road Monday.Willie Frank Bacon died when the 2020 Ford F150 pickup he was driving went off the road and struck a tree, authorities say.Bacon and his 75-year-old wife, Charlotte, had just turned off of U.S. Hwy.
