Lightning strikes two Putnam County homes

A quick response by firefighters saved two residences from being entirely destroyed by fire after lightning struck them in recent summer storms.

Deannexation request runs up against city resistance

Eatonton City Council’s scheduled July 15 meeting was dominated by a presentation from Ted Baggett of The Baggett Consulting Agency about de-annexation applications submitted in May and July last year by eight local landholders regarding ten parcels of land currently within city limits.

BOE hears update on current school projects

The Putnam County Board of Education met on July 23 to approve this year’s dress code and hear updates on the new elementary and primary schools.The main change for the dress code was verbiage to ensure there would be no questioning of the rules between staff, teachers, students, and parents.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigations (GBI) is currently conducting a death investigation on a Georgia College & State University (GCSU) student who was found dead in her dorm room late last month.

Building a wall for past and present veterans

Nikki Barker wears many hats. Now, she sports one, proclaiming her Iraqi Freedom U.S. Army veteran status. But Barker also serves as the local VFW Veterans of Foreign Wars Commander, manager of the VFW Thrift Store, and president of the Putnam County Veterans Wall of Honor.
