Oconee Ranger District hosts annual forestry meeting

More than two dozen members of local, regional, and state Forest Service personnel gathered at Oconee Ranger District facilities near Rock Eagle on Jan. 25, for an annual meeting about the Oconee Forest Health and Wildlife Habitat Improvement Project (OFHWHIP).

State Senate committee passes sports betting bill

A state Senate committee overwhelmingly approved legislation Tuesday legalizing sports betting in Georgia. Under Senate Bill 386, which the Senate Economic Development and Tourism Committee passed 8-2, the Georgia Lottery Corp. would award 16 licenses to sports betting operators.

Tex McIver pleads guilty to involuntary manslaughter

A year and a half after the Georgia Supreme Court overturned his malice murder conviction in the shooting death of his wife, Claud “Tex” McIver pled guilty to involuntary manslaughter in Fulton County Superior Court last week.

Steffen Thomas Museum presents all-new exhibit

After lifelong art collectors Marjorie and Richard Lowrance bequeathed their extensive Steffen Thomas art collection to the Steffen Thomas Museum of Art (STMA) in Buckhead, it officially became part of the museum’s permanent collection two years ago.

A 17-year-old Eatonton girl stopped at a red light on the Eatonton Bypass/U.S. Hwy. 441 last week, and it was there that a nightmare began for her. She noticed a man following her and, at some point, when it was obvious he was not going to stop, she became so scared that she called 911.

PCFC opens year with county data analysis
