Georgia redistricting maps on trial in federal court

A federal court began hearing legal challenges Tuesday to congressional and legislative redistricting maps the General Assembly’s Republican majorities drew two years ago based on the 2020 Census.

New training facility dedicated at Gatewood

During halftime at last Friday’s home opener for the 2023 football season, Gatewood Schools in Eatonton held a brief dedication ceremony for its new Walt Harper Training Facility, built behind the control tower on the north side of the football field.

Schools, law enforcement hold intruder drills

Putnam County Charter School System, Eatonton Police Department, and Putnam County Sheriff’s Office held active shooter drills last week in every school, and they were pleased with the “outstanding” and “extraordinary” results.

Rivian charges ahead after judge signs bond validation

District 3 BOC election deadlines yet to be set

In the wake of Alan Foster’s recent resignation from the Putnam County Board of Commissioners, a special election can be held on Nov. 7 with “plenty of time” for candidates to qualify and run campaigns for District 3 commissioner, according to Putnam Elections Supervisor Kim Rudolph.

Eatonton family’s home destroyed by fire

The community is stepping up to help its neighbors after a fire totally destroyed their home. “The house was a total loss but thankfully no one was home so there were no injuries,” Putnam County Fire Chief Thomas McClain said.
